Detailed History
This beautiful Aston Martin DB6 Saloon has certainly led an interesting life.

The car was ordered new by an American director of the Shell Oil Company as a gift to his wife on their 30th wedding anniversary. Excitingly, in May 1968, the couple took delivery of the Oystershell coloured left hand drive DB6 with its natural coloured leather interior in England (most likely the Newport Pagnell factory) and toured England for a few months. Chosen from the list of factory options were items such as an automatic transmission, Coolair air conditioning, power assisted steering, front and rear seat belts, FIAMM air horns, chrome wire wheels with three eared spinners, a heated rear window, a New Yorker radio, two wing mirrors and front and rear bumper over-riders.

A month into their tour of the United Kingdom the car returned to the factory for its 500 mile service, after which it returned again a few months later at 685 miles for a 1,000 mile service, a new automatic gearbox to be fitted, and the fitting of an "exhaust emissions kit". Shortly after this we believe the car was then shipped to the USA.

We are fortunate to have made contact with the first owner's son and grandson who have very generously supplied the history file with some wonderful information and photographs of their time with the car. We are extremely grateful to them for their assistance.

The car arrived in the port of San Francisco in late 1968 and over the following years it was much enjoyed by the family around their homes in northern California, initially in Woodside and later in Pebble Beach.

In 1983 the DB6 was passed onto one of their sons who was clearly equally fond of it. The car had previously benefited from some paintwork repairs during the 1970’s, and during his custodianship he maintained the car himself to a very high standard. After six years of enjoyment he undertook a mechanical refurbishment on the car which included replacing the automatic gearbox with a ZF manual transmission, overhauling the cylinder head, replacing the SU carburettors with three Weber items (the SU’s having been fitted a short time earlier to replace the original Stromberg units), overhauling the rear axle and differential, and overhauling the braking system. The air conditioning system had never worked satisfactorily so this was also removed.

After thirty years of cherished family ownership the DB6 was regretfully sold in 1998 to a psychiatrist who resided to the north of San Francisco near the coast.

It is believed the car was cosmetically restored in the mid-2000's during which it was repainted and retrimmed in the attractive dark metallic red paint and tan leather combination the car is presented in now. A few years later in November 2007 this lovey DB6 was sold by a well-known specialist in New York State and the car left the USA for the Middle East.

The car returned to England nearly fifty years after it had left, and in 2018 and Aston Martin Works carried out a significant amount of work on the car which included overhauling the steering rack and carburettors. In addition, a suspension handling kit and new shock absorbers were fitted, along with a new wiring loom.

This original LHD DB6 Saloon is offered with an original hand book and is presented in very good condition, and with its interesting history and triple-Weber carburettor equipped engine, it will surely be a very enjoyable car for a future owner.
