Detailed History
This is a very rare car with an interesting history. The Factory Build Sheet shows that chassis 3660 was constructed in 1967 and fitted with the Vantage engine, Coolaire air conditioning, power assisted steering, ZF manual transmission, front seat belts, Bosch New Yorker radio, and FIAMM air horns. The original colours were Dubonnet red paint (as it is now) with a dark blue Connolly leather interior and a dark blue roof, and it was first registered on September 19th 1967 with the licence FKS 33F.

A Captain with Singapore Airlines acquired the car in June 1985 from established classic car dealer Paradise Garage, then located in Parsons Green in Fulham, London SW6. The odometer recorded around 63,000 miles at the time of purchase, and the pilot kept the car at an address in Bournemouth, England (later Salisbury) and used the car occasionally when in the UK, covering on average about 1,700 miles a year. Along with the sales invoice from Paradise garage, the history file contains many invoices from recognised Aston Martin specialists who supplied parts and maintained the car for him.

It seems that upon retiring from Singapore Airlines in 1998 after thirty-five years with the company, the owner sold his property in England and moved to Melbourne, Australia. After getting an Aston Martin specialist in England to overhaul the cylinder head in early 2000 and make the engine suitable for use with unleased fuel, he exported the car to Australia in late 2000, at which time the odometer recorded about 86,700 miles.

The DB6 is reported to have been restored during 2007 and 2008 and there are invoices on file for the renovation of the brightwork and some mechanical work. During the restoration it was painted in a striking aquamarine colour and trimmed in cream leather, and although we don’t know what the colour was prior to the repaint, we do know that the car was already a shade of blue from a V5 registration document on file from August 1995. As there are no receipts on file for a repaint during the gentleman’s ownership in England, it is very likely the car changed from its original Dubonnet red to blue prior to his ownership.

Soon after the restoration was completed, the car was entered into an auction near Sydney in November 2008 and was acquired by the most recent owner. This well-travelled car was then transported to the Middle East to form part of a significant collection of cars, and during its time there it was repainted in the original Dubonnet red and then remained on display until returning to England in 2018.

Of the 140 DB6 Volante’s produced, only 29 had the triple-Weber carburettor equipped Vantage engine. A fair proportion of those had automatic transmission, so an original factory produced Vantage with Manual transmission is an incredibly rare machine. This car has a good history and Aston Martin Works are delighted to offer it for sale as a restoration project and then restore it for the new owner, to either original factory specification and colours or to those chosen by the new owner.
